Sitting Seaside

So I had ordered enough fabric (Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Black and Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Flax) for the sashing for Brian's quilt, not sure which one I had wanted to use. I decided to go with the black because Flax was much too light for what I wanted. Problem was...now I had 2 1/2 yards of Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Flax. What in the world am I gonna do with this?! Enter Seaside. I had bought a charm pack of Riley Blake Designs October Afternoon's Seaside last year while at Jenni's, planning on doing something like this with it. I had quickly sewed it up and then let it sit. And sit. And sit. Now I happen to excel at letting things sit. I let the laundry (clean) sit, the dishes (dirty) sit, my (big) booty sit, my fabric (beautiful and untouched by scissors) sit. I'm a pro. But when I realized that this extra linen fabric might compliment that tiny patchwork I had sewn up, I put the two together on a date. What do you think? Too washed out? My 'plan' is to echo a border of seaside about 4-6" away, then have the rest just negative space. I may or may not use a scrappy binding of seaside. Or I might just use one of the yellow or red prints. So there will be a total of three pops of color. The main, the border, the binding. Now I've just got to do it. No more sitting....

  1. Seaside is such a great line, I've kept wanting to buy it. The only thing stopping me is that it iscream-based. So dark cream that I thought it might be hard to work with. Too cream was on the "not for me" list. Pairing it with linen is super smart.

    1. I figured you wouldn't like it because of the cream. I remember seeing that cream word on your 'not like' list. Which actually surprised me, because I figured neutrals would've been up your alley. I actually do NOT like quilts that are mainly made out of varying neutrals, but love rooms that are different shades of white/cream. Go figure. So why don't you like cream? Do you like white better, or not at all?

  2. I love it with linen, it makes it even more vintagey. Is this what you are doing for Brian? Seaside is one of the fabrics I am hoarding. I don't want to cut it up, I just want to pull it all out and look at it once a week. We had beach chairs out of those stripes. It makes me think of cousins and playing mermaid in the ocean!

    1. Hahahaha! Did Brian play mermaid, too? No, it's not for Brian. It's just because I need to do "something" with it. Problem is I really like it, so I will probably keep it around as a lap quilt or something.
