My goal is to have all the neighbors gifts baked, packaged and delivered by Dec. 10. So I made some super fast and easy tags today. While I was dying my ribbon the thought occurred to me that I need to share this with my sissies! So girls, for two years I was paying a good some of money for that vintagey ribbon to tie on my home made tags. Then I came across this great card making blog, wish I could remember it to give her credit, and she taught me how to save a couple bucks, PER YARD! The hug snug seam binding is about $8. For 100 yards. Then I bought this crazy cheap fabric dye from Wal-Mart for about $1.50. I mix my colors together until I like what I see. Then soak the ribbon until it looks good, very technical. Then scrunch occasionally while it dries, which is about two minutes in Arizona. If you touch the ribbon while it is wet, your fingers will turn funny colors. Doesn't bother me, but some people pay a lot of money for manicured fingers, they should wear gloves while scrunching!
I sort of follow the directions on the dye pkg. One quart water, one tblsp. Salt, one tblsp. Dye. I usually dump in whatever amount of dye I feel like, and I only use two cups of water.
Have a great day!

Awesome!! I'll have to try it out! You girls are so...Christmasy. I always feel so scrooge-ish when I talk to you guys around Christmas. We give out some holiday treats (usually coworkers and VT peeps and people we REALLY like :) but that's about it. And I never make them fancy, just stick them on a plate, wrap in red plastic wrap and call it good. I should probably be better.... Maybe next year :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a brilliant idea!!
